The one from @Yeelp is good, but can it be considered original if it takes place in Lovecraft's R'lyeh?

@Remi-le-Oduen I thought about this too, but the news post says that completely original means that you can not include characters from other media and says nothing about setting (I know this is kind of splitting hairs). R'lyeh is merely a place in Lovecraft, and is only mentioned in the story, but not necessarily the setting where it takes place ;)

(I could even change the name from R'lyeh to some other fictitious place I made up and it'd work perfectly fine, but I liked the idea of mentioning it in the story.)

That being said, I'm glad you like it!

You know recently a bit of a crack formed in my violin and it's gonna be pretty expensive to fix sooooooo..........100 bucks would really help... just saying

Is a little violence ok -A monster with blood on them or someone getting shot/bitten by something

yes, that's fine ^-^

whats the BBS?

Done, waiting for the result. Fingers crossed!

If anybody wants any help proofreading or editing, let me know. I’m trying to help anyone who has yet to submit. Looking at the submissions, I noticed some recurring issues. Here’s some advice if you want it:

Imo, I think people got too caught up in the “emotional” prompt, to the point where it’s too heavy-handed and mushy. If you want emotion, then it needs to stem from conflict.

Speaking of conflict, I would focus on narrative elements. I’m not sure on the judging criteria, but if it’s based on the “best” story, you need the actual parts of a story. A short story doesn’t necessarily need all of these, but I recommend it. Just google “narrative elements” and check if these are present in your work. You can add or edit from there. Which leads me to the last point.

Make sure you edit your story. That’s the most important part of the short form. Seriously, I cannot stress incredibly important this is. The deadline is over a week away; you should re-read your story as much as possible. If you can, get a fresh set of eyes or a second opinion. Also, make sure you look at your submission in the text box. The copy-paste is still wacky, and most of the stories came out as a wall of text.

Sorry if this is a little late. Good luck.

@DeftAndEvil Hey. I might take you up on your offer. Does this counts as collaboration though? And are you expecting anything in return? Just curious.

Along with my submission, I recorded an audio version of my story "Office of the Returned" if anyone is interested you can find it on my profile.

@stelamoris
Editors don’t get writing credits, neither do proofreaders or revisers so I don’t see how this would count as a collaboration. I don’t want anything, just trying to help.

@DeftAndEvil ok, thanks. Will be sure to take u up on your offer. Thanks very much.

@stelamoris
Feel free to pm any questions or excerpts. I can look at the entire story if it’s not too long, but I prefer to keep it short since we’re so close to the deadline. I’ll also offer my suggestions/criticisms and try to give a timeline, since it is kinda like extra homework (and I’m also working on my own entry).

ugh, 2-3 days left, depending on timezone
let's see what can I pull, I just finished a 2000 word draft
I'll read everyone's entry after I deliver mine

@DeftAndEvil ok, thanks again.

The one by @Dankylosaur is my winner so far

Nice ant story from @Sigilyph too

Nice story from @anymany here!

Quick question about the *completely original* part, could I write something with only OC characters in a stablished universe but without mentioning/acknowledging any official characters? Like a guardsman from 40K fighting nameless chaos cultists or a wizard from the world of Harry Potter but in another wizard school and before Harry Potter was even born?

no, sorry.

Unfortunate that I only just spotted this. Oh well, it's been a while since I've done flash fiction. That means it's gonna be a shitty first draft, but it'll still be worth doing.

@Stanpai created such a beautiful and sad story of a future
